a = abiotic factors - non living factors
b = binary fission - cells splits in two
c = carbon cycle - the way CO2 and O2 exchange between plants and animals
d = diffusion - movement of particles from an area of high concentration to low concentration
e = ecological niche - the way of life of an organism in its biological community (FA-AH!)
f = food chain - group of plants and animals that are linked together through feeding relationships
g = golgi body - cell organelle which packages and modifies cells
h = habitat - where organism lives
i = isotonic - solution with the same concentration of solute as another solution
j = jess - student who attends biology
k = kingdom - first level of classification of organisms
l = lysosome - cell organelle which contains enzymes for digestion
m = mitochondria - cell organelle which uses respiration to produce energy (ATP)
n = nucleus - control centre of the cell. Contains chromosomes
o = osmosis - is the movement of water from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through a semi-permeable membrane!
p = plasmolysis - cell membrane pulls away from cell wall as a result of water loss
q = quadrat - square in which number of organisms is counted
r = rough endoplasmic reticulum - transport path inside cell with ribosomes attached
s = succession -change in species compostion of a community over time.
t = turgid - swollen by water pressure
u = urea - fertiliser used on plants
v = vacuole - storage organelle in cells
w = water cycle - it rains, it makes puddles, we drink it, the sun shines, the water evapourates, it makes clouds, it rains again
x = xylophone?
z = zonation - horizontal distribution of organisms
